HiON Franchisee Training — team review guide (v0.1)
The rebuilt 15-module Franchisee Training Program is now reviewable as a website.
URL: https://hion-training.vercel.app
Who this is for: Jim, Joe Lewis, Joe Frank, Tony — and anyone the founders pull in for a second opinion.
Time commitment for first pass: ~2–3 hours to skim the whole thing, longer if you read every section of every module.
What this site is
A read-only review surface for the rebuilt training program. Every word on it is rendered from the markdown drafts in /Curriculum-Rebuild/. There is no submission form, no login, no editing in the browser — open it, click around, read.
The rebuild was generated against the Operations Manual v1.0 Working Draft and the HiON Voice Playbook v1.0. Every module passed the 8-point voice diagnostic. Every Manual citation has been verified.
How to use it
- Top navigation — five sections: Curriculum, Framework, Decisions, Status, Reference.
- Sidebar (laptop / desktop only) — lists every doc in the section you’re in. On mobile, use the top bar.
- Right-rail TOC — on every module page, jumps you between sections without scrolling.
- Search — press
⌘K(Mac) orCtrl+K(Windows) anywhere on the site. Or press/. Search covers every module, every memo, every reference log — 6,803 words indexed across 35 pages. - Previous / Next — at the bottom of every module page, walks you through the curriculum in order.
If you find something wrong — a typo, a factually-incorrect statement about the role split, a tone that misses, a citation that doesn’t match the Manual — note the URL and the section heading, and send it back. Don’t edit the markdown unless you’re Will. Source-of-truth lives in /Curriculum-Rebuild/, and parallel edits will conflict with the v0.1 rebuild.
Where each person’s review attention will land hardest
You don’t have to read every module. Five focused passes get the program over the line.
Jim (CEO, original curriculum author)
You wrote the first draft against NotebookLM. This is the rebuild against the Manual + Voice Playbook. Two things to do:
- Skim every module’s Section 2 (Learning objectives) and Section 7 (Competency assessment). If you read nothing else, read those — that’s where the program either teaches what an operator needs or it doesn’t. Note any objective that’s missing or that’s pitched at the wrong level.
- Sign off (or correct) five educated-attempt deliverables. These are framework decisions I made without you and need your call. Each one is a single page:
- Decisions → Assessment format — three-layer design (pre-session check, per-module check, application demo). Confirm or change the 80% pass / one-retake rule.
- Decisions → Continuing training framework — annual / Manual-update / amendment / new-hire triggers.
- Decisions → Pre-work platform recommendation — Partner Portal as v1 LMS surface (not a third-party LMS).
- Decisions → Training staff disclosure template — Item 11 staff table with you, Joe Lewis, Joe Frank, Tony, and Steve Wazny named.
- Decisions → OJT supervisor framework — Joe Frank as v1 OJT supervisor.
- Item 11 path — confirm Option 2 (~38 classroom hours) with counsel. The full memo is in Decisions → Item 11 decision memo, with counsel-facing input in Decisions → Item 11 input for counsel.
Joe Lewis (COO)
The Voice Playbook calls you “the platonic ideal HiON voice.” If a sentence in this curriculum would make you wince reading it aloud at IFA, it’s wrong. Two passes:
- Brand-voice diagnostic. Spot-read M01 (Section 4), M03 (the whole module), M11 (Section 4), M14 (Section 4). Those are the modules most exposed to QSR-franchise drift. Any sentence that sounds like a marketing person wrote it — flag it.
- Operator reality check. You’ve scaled franchise systems for 25 years. Read Module 9 (Staffing, DBM, personnel) and Module 13 (Finance, Sinking Fund, reporting) and tell us if the operator obligations being taught are what a real multi-unit operator would expect to be on the hook for.
Joe Frank (Operations)
You’re the named v1 OJT supervisor and the operational center of gravity for site acquisition through commissioning. Read in order:
- M04 — Site acquisition and feasibility — including the 240-minute OJT block. Does it match how you actually walk a site?
- M05 — Lease, Site Host, Lease Addendum — does the Site Host playbook reflect what you’ve negotiated in real Site Host meetings?
- M10 — Site-area maintenance, monitoring, fault escalation — including the 240-minute OJT block. Does the monitoring discipline match what actually happens at a live site?
- OJT-Supervisor-Framework.md (in Decisions) — confirms you as v1 supervisor. Read and confirm.
- Provide Item 11 data — for the Training Staff Disclosure Template, we need your Time in Position and Years of Relevant Experience. Send to Will.
Tony Cuomo (Customer Experience)
CX is your domain. Two modules:
- M11 — Customer experience, payments, driver support — the whole module is about customer-facing operations. Does the language match the way HiON talks to drivers?
- M03 — Brand promise and brand execution — make sure the brand-execution rules at the site line up with the CX standards you’re enforcing.
- Provide Item 11 data — your Time in Position and Years of Relevant Experience. Send to Will.
Will (Dev — for the record)
Outside the review itself, you’re driving these in parallel:
- Eight cluster sessions to resolve the ~70 outstanding
[CONFIRM]tags. Sequence: Cluster A (FA terms, you + Jim + counsel) → Cluster B (FDD disclosures, you + Jim + counsel) → Clusters C–H in parallel. See Reference → Source gaps log § “Resolution clusters.” - Module rubric reconciliation. ~10 min per module to map each module’s Section 7 application-demonstration criteria to the universal four-criterion rubric in Assessment Format §3.
- Partner Portal v1 training surface — the next build. This review site is the predecessor. Spec in Decisions → Pre-work platform recommendation §3.
What’s deliberately not in v0
Don’t flag these as missing — they’re scoped out on purpose:
- No login, no submission, no training log. This is a review surface only. The submission / scoring / tracking flow is the next build (Partner Portal v1).
- No comments or in-line discussion. Annotations come back via email / Slack / direct message to Will.
- No light/dark toggle. Dark only, to match the V3 marketing brand.
- No mobile sidebar drawer. Sidebar appears at laptop width and up.
- Job aids referenced in Section 8. ~60–90 job-aid files are referenced by name in each module’s Section 8 but not yet written. They’re not blocking cohort 1 — the descriptions are usable in-room. They’ll ship within 30 days of cohort 1.
- Cross-references like “see M02” stay as plain text. Markdown links (
[M02](...)) resolve correctly; the prose mentions don’t. - Manual references like §2.1.2 stay as plain text. The Operations Manual itself is the source of truth and isn’t on this site.
When you’re done with the v0 review
Send Will:
- Per-module notes — any line, paragraph, or section that’s wrong / unclear / off-tone, identified by URL and section heading.
- Sign-off or pushback on the five educated-attempt deliverables (Jim only).
- Time in Position + Years of Relevant Experience (Joe Lewis, Joe Frank, Tony — for Item 11).
- “Yes / no / change this” on Item 11 Option 2 (Jim + counsel).
Once those four return, the curriculum is locked at v1.0 and the next build (Partner Portal v1 training surface) starts.
What the site is built on (for the record, ignore unless you care)
Astro 5, TypeScript, Tailwind 4, Pagefind. Static build, served by Vercel. The brand identity (near-black canvas, single orange accent, Satoshi + JetBrains Mono type) is the V3 marketing site’s design language translated into a docs-site layout. No mesh gradients, no animation, no marketing fluff — the site disappears into the content, the way a good docs site should.
